Goose: Two Nights at Pullman Hall!

Goose  is an American-indie groove/funk/psychedelic rock/jam band who hails from Norwalk, Connecticut and started off as trio in 2014. The band originally consisted of Rick Mitarotonda (guitar/vocals), Trevor Weeks (bass), and Ben Atkind (drums). Peter Anspach (keyboards/guitar/vocals) was added to the band in 2017 and then later added Jeff Arevalo (percussion/vocals) in 2020. They have released three (3) LPs, one (1) EP, and six (6) live albums that are all amazing! Like Bluegrass/Americana phenomenon Billy Strings, Goose developed a faithful, dedicated following during 2019-2020 when the band performed many livestreams from their fan driven Bingo Tour“a series of intimate virtual events”, and a plethora of sound board recordings, courtesy of Goose's Official Bandcamp page.

These sound board recordings plus many more are available for their loyal fans to keep the party going or relive an experience seeing them live. Goose’s ability to improvise at any time during their set has propelled this band to become well-known within the jam band community. If you are just starting off with Goose, may I suggest watching their famous Peach Music Festival (2019) set which is said to be the moment their name became a household name within the scene.

This would be my first time attending a concert at Pullman Yards in Atlanta. I was able to attend the interactive exhibit for artist Pablo Picasso at Pullman Yards earlier this Summer. Attending this venue while it hosted an art exhibit piqued my curiosity on how they would set up for this weekend’s concert featuring Goose. Also, I was excited to get a foil poster for this event as they always drop some awesome tour posters. It is also important to note that Marcus King was in Atlanta playing the same nights at The Tabernacle, so this would be a great test to see the draw Goose can pull. Let it be known that you could not tell another major act was performing this weekend in Atlanta. The entry line for Saturday was quite long as many people arrived before 6 pm to enter the area and get a good spot close to the stage or even an exclusive show poster (foil and gold versions) that the band was releasing for this two-night performance.

The crowd was pumped as the band walked on stage and waved to the cheering crowd of faithful fans. The crowd yelled “GOOOOOOOOOOSE” to the top of their lungs as the band members took their musical stations for the night. The first night was kicked off with a track that I have yet to hear live at one of their shows. So, I was excited to be in the photo pit and jam out to “Atlas Dogs” and then Goose going into “All I Need” made me a happy person. Overall, Goose played an exceptional first set before taking a mini break before their second set. I stayed back to enjoy the full second set with a couple friends who came up for the weekend. It was nice to enjoy the full-on spectacle that is Goose live. And to top it off, they ended the night with “Slow Ready” as their encore. This was a night for the record books! Every person left that night with a huge smile on their face because they knew exactly what they just witnessed. Greatness!

Just like night one, the line for entry was already gaining some distance before 6 pm. People were once again ready for the race to get a spot on the rail or grab the limited-edition posters that the band had made for this weekend. Regardless of the reason, we all came for really one reason and one reason only. You never miss a Sunday show. Never. After the band kicked off the evening with “Time to Flee” and then “Indian River” … this evening proves that this saying is so true. The second set of night two was my favorite over the weekend with songs like “Pumped Up Kicks” (Foster the People cover), “Rockdale”, and “Yeti” to name a select few. You could also see the crowd feeling the vibe all evening with each song from night two. This was truly a remarkable weekend that will go down in the history books of all Goose tour stops.
