God Is A Weapon Tour: Falling In Reverse
Is there much to do on a Monday night in Genesee County, NY? The answer is usually no, but not on September 29th. Falling in Reverse rolled through with supporting act Slaughter to Prevail to give fans an epic night. The show, rescheduled from its original September 9th date to later in the month, drew thousands of loyal fans who were eager to make the wait worthwhile. Even with some supporting acts unable to make the stop and set times being adjusted at the last minute, that didn’t deter over 10,000 tickets from being sold and fans from packing the amphitheater. People poured into the parking lot early on, grabbed their favorite merchandise, and made their way to their seats, eager for the experience of the God Is a Weapon Tour.
Die-hard fans proudly wore their band’s merch, and a surplus of young kids excitedly made their way into the packed venue alongside their parents. Proof that the younger rock generation was alive and well. While it was a bummer that this stop on the tour only had one opening act, that didn’t stop fans from arriving early. The plus side to that? Fans got to enjoy an hour-long set from Slaughter to Prevail. The mood was set, the anticipation was high, and the crowd was ready!

Slaughter to Prevail wasted no time engaging the crowd in some absolute chaos. The band’s signature masks could be seen on all members of this Russian-based deathcore band. The open-air layout of the venue provided plenty of space for the band’s brutal riffs and harsh breakdowns. Alex Terrible delivered his signature gutturals and screams throughout the show. If you don’t know Alex’s signature guttural growl, you need to look it up asap. With the band cultivating energetic chaos, the crowd quickly warmed up and filled the pit. The setlist included staples like “Baba Yaga,” and also tracks from their latest album, Grizzly. Despite the heaviness and extreme style, the crowd stayed engaged and energetic.
The guitars and drums created a sound of thick, crushing breakdowns and raw, brutal energy. Some younger fans even had on a Slaughter to Prevail mask and locked into the bands every move. The packed setlist drew immediate moshing and headbanging in the pit, where fans proudly clung onto the barricade. No mic? No problem. During the song “Viking”, Alex Terrible asked the crowd to be quiet while he delivered a raw, unamplified scream that could be heard all the way to the back of the lawn. Even though Slaughter to Prevail was the opening act that night, their stage presence gave just the opposite. The band took advantage of every minute on that stage and fans were absolutely loving it. With audience response being immediate, this crowd was supercharged, and ready to go.

Falling in Reverse exploded into their set with Prequel. Radke appeared in his signature black tank, pants, and hat under a sultry beam of light. The band then moved quickly into the heavier fare “Zombified,” pushing the momentum of the crowd early on. The cinematic backdrop was incredible, shifting different video clips in sync with songs such as “God Is a Weapon” ft. Marilyn Manson. The combination of pyro, strobes, and lasers, along with the massive screens, had fans locked into every moment. The attention to detail of production was truly unmatched. Radke paced the raised platform, putting on a full performance and inviting fans to be fully present in the moment. The setlist was arranged with an assortment of tracks from various albums and a ton of crowd favorites. The crowd was mashed up with the perfect combination of old and new fans. Radke’s banter with fans throughout the night was fun to watch and made the night truly one to remember. Explosive metal breakdowns, orchestral tension, and theatrically emotionally charged vocals showed the talent that Radke and the guys possess as a band.
The crowd sang back lyric after lyric of their favorite songs at full volume. Crowd-pleasing songs like “ I’m Not a Vampire” and “Watch the World Burn” had all of Genesee county feeling the effects of the show. You could tell that this crowd had been waiting for their moment on this tour. The balance between older and newer hits ensured both longtime fans and newer listeners felt included in the show’s experience. Even making an appearance was Donnie (Ronnie’s alter ego puppet) and the infamous asshole cam. The bands’ set focused on truly making the fans a part of the show. Your favorite y’allternative song, “All My Life,” even made an appearance. The band’s mix of rock, metal, rap, and even country proves why they are a force to be reckoned with in the industry. A true highlight of the night was when Alex Terrible joined Radke onstage for their popular song “Ronald.” Closing out the show with a perfect combo of rage, intensity, and all-out chaos.
As the night concluded, fans filtered out, buzzing hard off the night’s high. While some hoped the set list would be longer, the show was absolutely a perfect ending for Darien Lake’s summer concert lineup. Radke promised a performance, and he delivered that and more.
