The Lonely World Tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary "If Only You Were Lonely"

Hawthorne Heights hit the road to celebrate twenty years of If Only You Were Lonely, with Creeper and Letlive. The energy didn't just fill the Town Ballroom it practically burst through the walls. With fans swarming from every angle, lines wrapping around the merch table, and a desperate scramble for the best spots at the barricade, the room felt like a pressure cooker about to blow. But that’s the magic of this venue. No matter where you stand, there’s never a bad view, just an incredible angle to watch the chaos unfold.

English rock outfit Creeper, featuring Will Gould, Ian Miles, Sean Scott, Hannah Greenwood, Jake Fogarty, and Lawrie Pattison, took the stage next, delivering a theatrical, high-octane set that gripped the crowd from the very first chord. Their sound feels as if it belonged right on the soundtrack to The Return of the Living Dead, blending dark romance with fiery punk-rock swagger. Every member commanded the room with magnetic presence, launching synchronized high kicks into the air as they built toward a spine-tingling finale with “Cry to Heaven.” Even while clearing the stage for Letlive., the band’s theatrical flair didn’t wane. Fans eagerly swarmed the barricade begging for setlists, and their bassist obliged in style, wiping his stage makeup with a setlist before handing the smeared souvenir directly to an ecstatic fan.

From California, the high-energy post-hardcore outfit Letlive features Jason Aalon Butler, Jean Francisco Nascimento, and Jeff Sahyoun, joined on this run by touring musicians Skyler Acord and Ryan Seaman. Butler brought an utterly captivating, unhinged energy to the stage, pouring every ounce of passion into the performance. From drenching himself in water and scaling amps to belt out vocals from above, to leaping directly into the surging pit to mosh alongside ecstatic fans during “Renegade 86,” his presence was magnetic. Of course, what is playing a show in Buffalo without taking a moment to honor Andy and pay homage to Every Time I Die? He dedicated their entire set in his memory.

Guitarist Jeff Sahyoun matched that wild theatricality, plucking strings with his teeth and spitting bursts of water across the stage. Their electric chemistry and raw crowd connection make them an absolute must-see live act. When a mosh pit injury briefly halted the madness, Butler immediately waded into the heavy crowd himself to check on the fan before security escorted them out for care. Once clear, the band kicked right back into gear to finish out an incredible nine-song set, capping off the chaos with a blistering performance of “27 Club.”

Long before the mid-2000s underground explosion calcified into mainstream history, Ohio’s Hawthorne Heights were busy drafting the blueprint. Spearheaded by frontman JT Woodruff alongside bassist Matt Ridenour and guitarist Mark McMillon, the band didn't just participate in the post-hardcore and emo wave—they helped steer its emotional center of gravity. More than two decades past their breakthrough, the architects are still standing, proving that the genre's foundational pulse refuses to flatline.

To start the set, they had a screen setup featuring shifting imagery and a clock counting down, alongside a rotary phone being dialed with The Twilight Zone and Halloween themes playing—a perfect touch for an emo tour kicking off in October. Yet, the enduring muscle memory of a Hawthorne Heights performance was instantly palpable as they kicked off with “This Is Who You Are,” rolling right through the If Only You Were Lonely album tracklist. For the encore, they even threw in fan favorites such as “Niki FM” and “Bring You Back.” Naturally, you can’t leave a Hawthorne Heights show without hearing them play “Ohio Is For Lovers.”
