Night Two (SOLD-OUT) w/ Khruangbin & Nick Hakim at The Eastern (12/03/2021)!

Khruangbin, for those that have been living under a rock for the last few years, has cemented a foothold in the music industry since first forming as a band back in 2009. The band hails from Houston, TX. and consists of Mark Speer (vocals/guitar), Laura Lee (bass/vocals), and Donald “DJ” Johnson (drums). Khruangbin has released six (6) LPs, four (4) EPs, and three (3) singles with one of those being a remake of the Charlie Brown and Peanuts Christmas classic, “Christmas Time is Here”. Plus, they have released an excellent EP with Houston native and R&B artist Leon Bridges entitled Texas Sun that is phenomenal. Their name means ‘flying engine” or airplane in Thai and was first coined by Laura during the beginning of the band’s creation. Khruangbin’s musical style is mainly instrumental and can be best described as a mixture of funk, rock, dub, soul, surf rock, and psychedelic which is straight up my musical alley.

The sold-out crowd was ready to dance the night away. As soon as Khruangbin took the stage, the crowd immediately began to dance and scream in excitement as night two began.

For their three (3) night stand at The Eastern in Atlanta, Khruangbin brought along Brooklyn, N.Y. native Nick Hakim for the opening support. Hakim has been making music since 2013 and has released three (3) LPs and two (2) EPs. This would be my first-time watching Nick Hakim perform but knowing that Khruangbin chose him as opening support was all I needed to know beforehand. Trained at the Berklee College of Music, Hakim’s musical style draws upon many incredible influences such as: Curtis Mayfield, Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament Funkadelic, and D’Angelo to name a few. Now, if that does not make you curious enough to check out Hakim’s discography, then I do not know what will. No worries, all you need to do is follow this link to Nick Hakim’s Official Bandcamp page and listen for yourself!
