Underoath Brings Their Voyeurist Tour to The Tabernacle

Underoath recently made a stop at The Tabernacle in Atlanta for their Voyeurist tour. They brought with them an absolutely stacked lineup featuring themselves, Spiritbox, Bad Omens and Stray From the Path. There were some hiccups prior to the show where the city of Atlanta was giving the venue ordinance issues that caused the concert to be delayed by about an hour. Eventually, the show went on and each of the bands got to play, but It should also be noted that the security personnel got the fans into the venue as efficiently as I’ve ever seen without jeopardizing security.

First to take the stage was Stray From the Path, hailing from Long Island, New York. This band, for those not familiar, have many politically charged songs challenging many of the norms of society. The band ripped through their set, playing their songs to heavy, chugging tracks that matched the tone. The fans that made it to the venue floor in time were treated to a phenomenal show.

Next to take the stage was a band that we are pretty familiar with here at ConcertHopper. Having covered them before on their own headlining tour and at last year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival where they will be returning for this year’s festival as well. This band is Richmond, Virginia’s very own Bad Omens. The band has gone through a bit of a transformative phase of late, following a similar path to Bring Me the Horizon as they transition to a balance of their historical metalcore and more melodic tracks with clean vocals. For this set, the band primarily focused on the latter but closed out the set with their punishingly heavy track “Dethroned”. The set had a lot to please the fans as vocalist Noah Sebastian strode to the stage decked out in a suit, eventually donning a ski mask. The performance was one of the most technical and beautiful sounding sets I’ve ever had the privilege of hearing live.

Next up was another band that we were lucky enough to catch live at last year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival, Victoria, British Columbia’s Spiritbox. This band has been on a meteoric trajectory, even before launching their debut album Eternal Blue which released in September of 2021. The band could perhaps be buoyed by vocalist Courtney LePlante and her husband, Mike Stringer’s time spent together in Iwrestledabearonce but despite their history, Spiritbox has carved out their own space in heavy music. It’s obvious the reach the band has as the sway effortlessly between touching tracks like “Constance” to crushing metal power tracks like the first track to help them find popularity, “Holy Roller”. The fans poured their love on the band and they played beautifully, perhaps bolstered by the fact that this was the first time Courtney’s family who live in Alabama (including her father) had the opportunity to see Spiritbox live.

Finally, as the lights came down, a figure donning an LED-laden mask walked to the center of the stage. As the lights danced across the mask, a message played to the crowd that thanked them for attending Underoath’s Voyeurist tour. The message stated to treat each other with kindness, compassion, and to recognize that, if not for everyone in attendance’s mutual decision to attend the show that many of the people in the room might never have encountered each other and that this was the power of music. It was a poignant message after a stressful past two years where much, including live music hung in the balance. After the message had played and the figure walked off of the stage, Underoath tore into their set like a wildfire. They ripped through a large collection of their hits as the band poured energy out into the crowd.

Despite the initial hang ups with the venue, this was an incredible evening to be in attendance for. This tour has concluded now but, as we mentioned, two of these bands have already been announce for this year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival with Spiritbox appearing on a poll where the festival asked “Should we bring them back,” so it’s highly possible that you will see them at the festival this year again as well. Either way, if you get the chance to see any four of these bands live, seize the opportunity, you will not leave disappointed.
