Coheed and Cambria Rockets In to The Signal for The Great Destroyer Tour

Like many artists, the iconic progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria postponed their planned tour in 2020. Happily, despite the ebbs and flows of COVID-19, they were able to return for a select number of shows in 2021. Thanks to a decline in the number of COVID cases, Coheed and Cambria announced The Great Destroyer tour, which included a broader array of cities and shows across the US.

Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria

I had the pleasure of covering their incredible performance at The Signal in Chattanooga, TN. Fully vaxxed and extremely enthusiastic, a large crowd gathered to see Coheed and Cambria. In line, I heard one passerby ask someone in front of me, “How would you describe their music?” When it comes to Coheed and Cambria, I’ve been unable to answer that question ever since I first heard them as a college DJ in the early 00s. Led by the brilliant Claudio Sanchez, Coheed and Cambria defies convention and traverses genres to create a sound all their own. I knew I’d be in for an incredible time and get to hear one of the most innovative, energetic, and electrifying bands in music today.

Coheed and Cambria live at The Signal in Chattanooga, TN

Coheed and Cambria played through a rocking set of 17 of their tracks covering their now 25+ year career. They rocked the house with some of their most well-known songs and fan favorites, including “The Suffering,” “The Gutter,” and “Welcome Home,” which you might recall from the halcyon days of Rock Band. We also got to hear 3 of their newest songs from their yet-to-be released album Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind, which is a continuation of “The Amory Wars,” a space opera that spans across nearly all of their albums as well as three volumes of graphic novels.

Walking home from the concert, I couldn’t think of any better way to say, “Live music is back, baby!” than rocking out to Coheed and Cambria in one of their incredible live shows with a packed crowd of dedicated fans!
