The Eternal Nightmare Tour featuring Chelsea Grin, The Acacia Strain, Spite, Left Behind and Traitors comes to Atlanta

The fist leg of the Eternal Nightmare tour skirted through areas of the Southeast but skipped the state of Georgia entirely. On the second leg, the bands on the tour remedied this, stopping in at The Masquerade in Atlanta. On this leg of the tour were Chelsea Grin, The Acacia Strain, Spite, Left Behind and Traitors.

A short drive from their home state of Florida, Traitors was the first band to take the stage. Even early the venue was filling in quickly and those early enough to see the Traitors set were not left disappointed. With their signature style of metal, complete with slow, chugging music to accompany vocalist Tyler Shelton’s guttural vocals were unique as Shelton’s trademark stage getup of Nascar shirts are in the metal scene.

Hailing from West Virginia, Left Behind was the next band to take the stage. For this tour, the band was something of a super group as they combined members of Left Behind with members of The Acacia Strain. This combination served to push forward the bands already unique blend of genres, taking on Thrash metal speed tracks and meshing them with hardcore sounds to the audience’s delight.

The remaining three bands, starting with Spite are all bands that ConcertHopper is familiar with as we have covered them all previously here on the site. During their last trip to Atlanta, singer Damian Tehrani fell ill and was unable to perform during the Chaos and Carnage tour (check out our review here.) In spite of this (no pun intended) the crowd was still heavily into the performance. This set the stage for what was sure to be chaos as Tehrani was appeared in good spirits as the group hit the stage. The band’s fans in attendance who are dubbed the Spite Cult showed out in support of their band.

Fresh off of their headlining Impact Crater tour, The Acacia Strain was the band warming up the stage before the headliner, Chelsea Grin set out to perform. As ConcertHopper learned from our last time seeing the band live, they bring heavy music and brutal lyrics, but also a message of positive and personal growth to each show along with a healthy dose of water bottles used as Super Soakers. This show was no exception as all of this was included as was a call from lead vocalist Vincent Bennett for the crowd to help the security stop being so bored which incited waves of crowd surfers to pour over the railing.

Finally it was time for the chaos that is Chelsea Grin to descend on The Masquerade. While we at ConcertHopper had seen the band perform before, this was our first experience with them as a headliner. Where the previous experience had been a sample, this headlining show was a full on buffet. The band snaked their way through their discography, pummeling the ear drums of those in attendance with their heaviest tracks.

The tour is now concluded but be sure to check any of the bands out on a future tour, you will not be disappointed.
